When you walk down the aisle, you don’t want the bouquets to make you sniffle and sneeze. Unfortunately, though, your seasonal allergies aren’t going to take a break for your big day.

Here are five ways to alleviate allergies during your wedding ceremony.

1. Move Everything Indoors

Having an indoor wedding offers multiple advantages. You don’t have to worry about a stray gust of wind mussing your hair or carrying off your veil. Plus, you’ll find far fewer items that make you sneeze.

Plus, if you’re like most brides, you planned your event for the afternoon, when pollen counts are at their peak. Why subject yourself to unnecessary misery?

2. Take Your Medication

Fortunately, you have tons of options for over-the-counter and prescription allergy medications these days, and not all of them make you drowsy. If you typically take yours at bedtime for the soporific effects, talk to your doctor about an alternative you can use during the day. You don’t want to fall asleep on your slice of cake, after all.

3. Break Out the Pineapple

People put pineapple on ham when they cook it partly because the bromelain contained within helps break down tough proteins. This substance can also help fight inflammation and possibly keep your nasal passages from swelling into a swollen mess. You don’t have to eat Spongebob’s home if you don’t fancy the taste — you can find supplements.

4. Take Care of Your Gut

When your nose resembles a leaky faucet, you might not pay any attention to your belly — but you should. Researchers have discovered that your gut microbiome affects your health more than previously thought, and taking care of your intestinal bacteria can help fight food allergies. Since everything in your body is interconnected, it’s not a stretch to think that a happier tummy could mean fewer sniffles.

5. Bring Ample (Soft) Supplies

Scratchy paper towels rub the foundation right off your nose and leave you looking like Rudolph. Unless you planned a holiday theme wedding where you dress up as Santa’s sleigh team, stock up on plenty of soft tissues. Seek out those containing aloe for added softness without sacrificing strength — and accidentally blowing a mess on your white gown.
