Candles For Your Home: Beyond the Jar Candle

Arguably one of my favorite things to buy are candles for your home. They add a glow to the room and make my kitchen smell better than the food I cooked half an hour ago. Ever since I've been old enough to be allowed to have candles, I've used them to decorate my room, bathroom and other parts of my home.

Now I know that candles for your home don't have to be a scented jar candle you picked up for $6 to make your home smell great. Although these types of candles are still a major staple in my candle hoarding problem. Candles and holders can be used to add a statement or pop of color to a room, even if they don't have a scent.

No matter what style your home is, or what kind of candle you use, there are plenty of types of candles for your home that anyone can use to perk up a space.

Pillar Candles:

These candles are a statement on their own. Pillar candles for your home add a large amount of color without any holder necessary! Since pillar candles burn into themselves, you don't have to have a holder to burn these. Although at the very least, you should use a pillar plate to keep any wax residue off of your furniture. However, pillar candles do look fantastic in vases, pillar holders and lanterns. Pillar candles look good as centerpieces on your table, in your kitchen and anywhere else inspiration strikes you.

Tealight Candles:

The smallest candle, but probably the easiest of all the candles for your home. Standard tealights burn for around 4 hours and extended burn tealights burn for about 7 hours. Since tealights come in their own contained cup it makes throwing them away easy at the end of their burn time. Plus tealights are so small, they can fit into a variety of holders that can be placed just about anywhere in your home from your bathroom to your mantle.

Votive Candles:

Votive candles are great because they're slightly larger than tealight candles, so they have a longer burn time. These candles just don't have a contained cup, so you have to burn them in a holder since they liquefy. However, in a votive holder, votive candles can have a burn time of 10 hours. Since votive candles come in a variety of colors they can add a small pop of color without being as large as pillar candles. Richland votive candles can also come scented! This means you can have the scents for the candles for your home plus the style!

Taper Candles:

Definitely a fancier candle than the other options here. But, depending on your style, taper candles are a fit for a specific aesthetic. These candles have a burn time of 6 hours and require a holder. Tapers come in a variety of colors and the holder styles can range from contemporary to classic. Taper candles look great on a side table with other decorations such as flowers.

Sphere Candles:

These are a rather modern candle. Sphere candles have a different shape than most candles for your home, but this is what makes them beautiful. If you have very geometric and modern furniture, these candles can add a perfect modern touch. With the 3" diameter, sphere candles can fit into vases and lanterns. This can add another level of elegance while containing the flame. Either way, this modern candle will wow anyone who loves something just a little different.

LED Candles:

Maybe you live in an apartment, or somewhere that doesn't allow candles. Either way, LED candles for your home are always a good alternative to the real deal. You can get LED candles in tapers, pillars, votives and tealights among other options. LED candles are reusable and will retain their shape and size, unlike a traditional candle that eventually melts down.

Floating Candles:

Now, I know floating candles are traditionally used for centerpieces at weddings or other events. But you can take this candle and make it your own to decorate your house, These can be placed in a bowl of water or your pool to add a simple touch of elegance. There are no rules on when or where to use a candle so it's entirely up to you.
