Even though honeymoons are a perfect opportunity to get an extended vacation from your boss, sometimes you just can’t negotiate more time off. Or maybe you have a different plan of your money and don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on long, lux holidays. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate your wedding. Consider going on a mini-moon! If you’re short on time and money but full of excitement, here are some tips to help you organize a perfect mini honeymoon.
Plan your time well
Since your mini-moon will last less than a week, make sure to work on your time management. Don’t plan to do too many things, but focus on one or two activities. If you try to fit in too many sights, restaurants and new experiences, you won’t have the time to truly enjoy any of them. Also, you can forget about lazy alone time and sleeping in. Be smart about your time management and sort your priorities. It’s all about you and your spouse, so make sure to take things slowly and reserve plenty of downtime. Most attractions won’t go anywhere (you can always return to your destination when you’re less busy) but you’re only spending time as newly-weds once!
Choose the right location
You really don’t want to waste time on traveling, so pick a destination that’s less than six hours away from home. This will give you more vacation time and reduce the stress of traveling. For instance, if you live in Brisbane, you can have a relaxing road trip to Byron Bay and enjoy golden beaches, perfect surfing opportunities and plenty of alone-time. If you live in New York, you can drive to Southampton and enjoy one of the best beaches in the whole country. Make sure to pick an easy destination that will give you time to recuperate, absorb all the excitement of the wedding and focus on each other.
Have a laid-back spa weekend
If you’re really short on time yet hungry for relaxation, you don’t even need to leave your city. For instance, Londoners can book a hotel somewhere in a lux and fancy neighborhood and forget all about cooking, tidying and taking care of their apartment for a few days. Or Sydneysiders can book a relaxing spa weekend in Sydney and enjoy everything from stress-relieving massages to lux facials and balancing Chakra healings. When treatments like these are accompanied with a glass of bubbly, you’ll feel like completely new people ready to take the life head-on as a power-couple that you are.
Treat yourself
No matter how long or short your honeymoon is, make sure to really treat yourself. Don’t hesitate to splurge on small comfort and big indulgences like horseback rides, five-course fancy meals and expensive wine. If you can, upgrade your suite at the hotel and your short stay will feel like a wonderful treat for your bodies and minds. And don’t be shy to tell people at the resort or hotel that you’re on your honeymoon—oftentimes, they tend to throw in a few extra treats and goodies for free!
Leave your devices at home
Unfortunately, we can’t leave our phones and laptops at home every day without any consequences on our careers and forget about our to-do list and chores. Luckily, when you’re on a short honeymoon trip, you can ditch all devices and schedules and really enjoy your free time. Of course, you want to bring your camera to capture all the wonderful moments you’ll have, but that’s it. This is a perfect time to enjoy the beginning of your life together without being available to the rest of the world all the time. For any emergencies, you can give your family and friends some contact information at your accommodation, but unless there’s a fire or a surprise zombie apocalypse, ask them not to disturb you for a few days. Everything but your love can wait until you get back home!
Longer honeymoons are super fun, but they are also time-consuming, expensive and hard to plan. And more budgeting and planning equals more stress which is something you definitely don’t need after your wedding. By planning a short vacation, you can get all the fun and relaxation without all the stress. Make sure to enjoy each other’s company, make the most of your accommodation and your destination and you’ll love your mini-moon!
